Our Story

About us

Hi, I’m Kate — a full-time marketing manager, a mom of two and the person behind From Walls to Wonderland..

Like many working parents, I am constantly trying to navigate between work, family time, school schedules, household chores and the never-ending list of things that need to be done. I know how easily everyday responsibilities can take over the day, leaving little time and energy for the moments that truly matter. That is why I always look for practical ways to make our home easier to manage. I believe that household routines do not need to be complicated or perfect. Small systems, simple habits and age-appropriate responsibilities can help the whole family work together, reduce everyday chaos and give children more independence.

Our Story: From a Big House to a Simpler Home

For many years, we lived in a large family house with a big garden. It was not just a house to us. It was a place filled with memories, family moments and many years of work.

We spent a long time renovating it, improving it and slowly turning it into the home we had imagined. Every room had its own story, and the garden gave us plenty of space for the children to play, for family gatherings and for all the little moments that make a house feel like home.

But a large home also comes with a large amount of responsibility.

There was always another room that needed cleaning, another cupboard waiting to be organized and another area where clutter slowly started to collect. Something constantly needed to be repaired, painted, replaced or maintained. Outside, the garden had its own endless list of jobs: mowing the grass, trimming plants, removing weeds, cleaning terraces and preparing everything for the changing seasons.

Even when one job was finally finished, another one was already waiting.

As a full-time working mom, I often felt that I was constantly moving from one responsibility to the next. I was trying to manage my work, spend meaningful time with my family, keep the house organized and somehow stay on top of all the everyday chores.

There were days when it felt as though the house itself had become another full-time job.

Of course, we were grateful for our home and everything it gave us. But over time, we began to ask ourselves an important question: did we really need so much space?

We started to realize that a bigger home did not automatically mean a better or easier life. In many ways, it meant more things to manage, more spaces to maintain and more time spent taking care of the house instead of simply enjoying it.

The home that was supposed to give us freedom was sometimes taking that freedom away.

This realization did not come overnight. Leaving a home filled with memories is not an easy decision, especially when so much time, energy and emotion have been invested in it. Downsizing can feel like closing an important chapter of your life.

But slowly, our idea of a dream home began to change.

We no longer wanted the biggest possible house or the most rooms. We wanted a home that supported the life we were actually living. A home that felt comfortable, practical and peaceful. A home that gave us enough space, but did not require all of our free time to maintain.

That is why we made the big decision to leave our large family house behind and build a smaller, more manageable home.

For us, downsizing is not about giving up comfort or creating a life with as little as possible. It is about being more intentional. It is about choosing what we truly need, what we really use and what genuinely adds value to our everyday life.

We want fewer rooms that need to be cleaned, fewer unused spaces and fewer possessions that simply take up room. We want practical storage, simple systems and a home where everything has a purpose and a place.

Most importantly, we want more time.

More time to spend with our children while they are still young. More time for family trips, conversations, quiet evenings and ordinary moments together. More time to rest without feeling guilty because another household job is waiting.

Our move is not only about changing houses. It is about changing the way we want to live.

We are learning that a wonderful home is not measured by its size. It is measured by how it makes a family feel and how well it supports their everyday life. This journey became one of the main inspirations behind From Walls to Wonderland. Here, I share the realistic side of creating a calmer and more organized family home. Not a perfectly styled home where everything is always tidy, but a real home with children, work schedules, busy mornings, piles of laundry and days when nothing goes according to plan.

From Walls to Wonderland means to me

I share simple organization ideas, manageable family routines and printable tools that help children understand and participate in everyday responsibilities. My goal is not to remove every chore from family life, because that would not be realistic. Instead, I want to make those chores easier, clearer and more manageable for everyone. Our smaller home will not solve every problem, and our routines will never be perfect. We will still have messy days, rushed mornings and moments when the laundry basket is overflowing. But we are creating a home that works better for us, instead of constantly working for the home.

That is what From Walls to Wonderland means to me:

Turning the walls around us into a place that supports family life, encourages independence and leaves more room for the moments that truly matter.

Less chaos. More independence. More family time.
